This week on netflix gold I found an old favorite.  Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.  Not the title may make you think that you missed a beatles movie.  Well if you have seen this you will know that you havn't . . . really.

While Sgt Peppers is based on the beatles franchise of songs it is not a beatles movie.  Instead it is a rock opera including lots of different actors and musical acts.  The title Roles go to the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton (Billy shears) which is kind of strange in and of itself.  Throughout the movie you get to see these guys and performers like Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Steve Martin, and Billy Preston sing Classic Beatle songs (mostly from the Sgt Peppers and Abby Road albums)  mostly the performances are fun, if not solid.

The story always felt a bit thrown together.  The Narrator (George Burns) is the Mayor of the city and safe guards the almost sacred instruments that keeps Heartland (a small town) the peaceful little town that it is.  Of course the bad guys want the instroments for themselves so that they can make heartland a town full of depravity and sin  (I'm really not making this up)  So it is up to our heroes. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, to track down the instruments.

The movie is cheesy,  but it is also classic.  It is very rare to hear different versions of beatles songs that are decent, and while all of these aren't great, there are some gems such as Steve Martin singing "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", and  Aerosmith doing "Come Together."  The movie is a product of its time which was the 70's.  None of the Beatles appear in the movie so once again this is not a beatles movie so don't think it is.

Go into netflix and check out this movie while it is there.  If nothing else you will get some fun laughs.
