Conventions: Timegate

5 years ago I went to the first full weekend Timegate convention in Atlanta Ga.  Since then I have been back every year, and three years ago I was asked to be the co- director of the Doctor Who Programming.

Timegate is a Doctor Who and Stargate Convention that happens every year on memorial day weekend.  It is a weekend of panels, shows, guests, dealers, autographs, and anything else that you might find interesting about Doctor who and Stargate.  The past 3 years have been a whirl wind for me as I find myself spending time with Martin Hennessee, the other co - director) working up panels and script synopsis and events.  It is a lot of fun and all of the work is rewarded come convention time.

Timegate is a small convention where you go back every year to meet your friends from this fantastic subculture that lives under your nose.  I have been involved in doctor who all of my life but have only been involved in any sort of organized fandom for just about 10 years, and Timegate has made up a huge part of that for me.  I have met some of the best people at this convention and I think, for me, that is what it is all about, the people.

Going out into the hotel once the hustle and bustle begins is magical.  I am a showman at heart, but I don't get a chance to do that as much as I used to, this is when I am able to put on the charm, and become a carnival caller in a way.  we get to tell people what the weekend is going to be like, and hopefully that is FUN!  that is what I want people to get out of the weekend.

The staff in all of the sections of timegate is so great.  Susan and Alan are our fearless leaders and they make it all happen, so they deserve a huge thank you.  Every other member of staff that puts this together, thank you for making this happen every year.

Timegate is May 25th - 27th.  If you are available and interested you should check it out.  you can find the convention online at http://www.timegatecon.org/ .  The convention is very family friendly and is a good environment.  If you have never been to a con before this is a great "Starter Con." Check it out, you may be very surprised at what you find.
